Steel sheet piling is a way to build retaining walls, riverbank protection and shells for underground structures, with good strength and rapid assembly.

At James Dunkerley Steels we have steel sheet piles for sale at reasonable prices. Read on to find out more about how piling steel can help with all sorts of construction projects.

What is sheet piling?

A pile sheet is not flat, but typically has a U-shaped profile, like a single corrugation on a piece of cardboard.

Multiple sheet piles can be overlapped and interlocked, similar to tongue and groove flooring, to create a strong and continuous retaining wall.

What is sheet piling used for?

Sheet piling – and especially steel sheet piling – is used across a variety of different projects, but generally where a wall or barrier must be built that is strong against high driving stresses, and potentially offers good watertightness too.

What are the advantages of steel for sheet piling?

Steel sheet piling has numerous benefits, including the multiple different types of steel sheet piles to buy:

Normal sections

These are the interlocking steel corrugations mentioned above, and can also be known as Larssen and Frodingham sheet piles.

Web sections

Steel web sections form cofferdams that can be filled with small rocks and gravel to create a more solid wall section.

Box sections

Box sections are created by welding multiple piling sheets together, to create an even stronger section that can withstand bending forces.

Composite sections

Composite sections are formed by welding steel piles to other steel sections, such as I-beams, to withstand the biggest bending forces and axial loads.

Dunkerley’s steel fabrication
