Anti-skid road plates are a special type of steel road plate better suited to more challenging environments, where extra grip is needed for vehicles and pedestrians.

HSE guidance requires traffic routes in workplaces to offer sufficient grip, as well as being even and free from potholes. Anti-skid steel road plates are an ideal solution for temporary routes, during work on the road surface, or as a quick cover-up for potholes until they can be filled in.

What are steel road plates?

Our plain steel road plates are sheets of smooth steel with anchor holes drilled into the corners. Standard sizes are 6′ x 4′ and 8′ x 4′ in thicknesses between 6mm and 50mm.

We have a comprehensive stock of smooth steel road plates, but we have also seen growing demand over the years for anti-skid road plates.

How are anti-skid steel plates different?

Unlike plain road plates, anti-skid plates are coated with Chinese bauxite. This durable and hard-wearing additional layer works well to reduce the risk of slipping and skidding.

The result is a steel road plate with all the properties of our smooth plates, but which offers better safety and grip performance in demanding environments or in wet weather.

Why use an anti-skid plate?

Anti-skid plates help your vehicles to find traction. If your project is taking place during the winter months, or in a location where you know it will be wet or muddy (e.g. tidal areas and wetlands) then anti-slip road plates are a sensible precaution to take.

HSE guidance, as mentioned above, says roads should offer sufficient grip to pedestrians and vehicles alike, while reducing the risk of a pedestrian suffering a slip, trip or fall.

This makes anti-slip steel plates a valuable addition to demonstrate health and safety compliance, while also minimising the likelihood of a costly interruption to your project due to an incident occurring.
