Steel beams sent to Coventry are allowing a major landmark to be reached in November as work progresses on the construction of the new bridge deck at Coventry Ring Road Junction 6.
The month is due to see the final delivery and installation of the supporting steel beams for the bridge deck, carrying Warwick Road and a pedestrian boulevard.
An earlier phase of installation was completed in September, but this will be the first time the full span of the bridge deck has been in place.
Councillor Rachel Lancaster, cabinet member for public services, said: “As most of the work so far has been within the area of the Junction 6 roundabout, when these beams are put in place everyone will finally have a true impression of the sheer size and footprint of the scheme.”
She added that other work on the project – including planning the new layout of Warwick Road and the kerb lines of approach roads – is also progressing well.
This should ensure everything is on track for the bridge to be completed in the spring of 2015, once the final stretch of work is completed.
